Default 10,000+ miles

Last summer i put over 10,000 miles on the bike, most of it in a 3 week span of time. Some 10 hour days, some riding twisties in western North Carolina, went from Chicago to Toronto, back to Chicago then down to Atlanta, up to Boston, Ithaca and home. Good suspension made the long days easy. Sundowner seat and windshield a must. The Dyna is a great bike to ride. Can be made into a bike with exceptional handling characteristics, which, in my opinion, is not as possible with the Softtail. Jay

Question "Nub" on Crampbuster?

Thought I'd try the Crampbuster first because it was inexpensive (cheap?) and easy. While putting it on and off, I noticed a little "nub" inside. I'm concerned that this might scratch the grip so I haven't used it yet. Is this from manufacturing, i.e. a "form mold access point" and something I can file off. Or is it essential to proper operation of the Crampbuster? Sent an email to "sales@crampbuster.com", only email address I could find for them, but I thought I'd ask here, too.

Looking forward to using this though to help with long rides! Otherwise, Cruise-Mate sounds like about the best of all worlds.

Thanks,
-- Rick Thomas

The man is just as important as the machine. My brother and I do multiple trips every year where we pound out 500+ miles a day for days at a time. He rides a softail with a badlander seat, I have a lowrider with a Lepera Sillouette seat. No windsheilds, cruise control, frills, highway pegs, or 10" thick seats for comfort. But neither of us is a fat *** and we train to ride. Spend some time getting used to long rides and you will do fine. Softail or Dyna, (as long as you are talking 88" twin cam or newer) will both do the job. If my grandpa could ride his chief and 45 across the country anyone can do it on a modern bike. Just be glad you aren't riding an Ironhead sporty...

Rog48, love your 48 pics! Miss my Nightster, I rode 1000 mile weekends with it, also went with the bighead light, but I wouldn't be able to deal with the 2.1 peanut tank.

Dynas are a great platform to build on.
Set yours up right and ride....
Last June I did a two day 1225 mile trip, the first day we did 750, 475 the second day....

Yep that

I put 27,000 miles on my old sportie 08 883 C in two years including a 5k trip through 14 states with an 8 day camping stop at Sturgis and the dragon last august. But I take plenty of long trips on it some camping (including by myself with all the gear on the sportie) or staying in hotels so all I needed was luggage. The guys in sturgis on their ultra's kept asking me if I really rode the sportie from MD to SD :-)

Seat, highway pegs, a windshield, and luggage can make any bike a touring bike.

Just get a good seat and foot position.
I just did an 8+ hour ride last weekend. I was tired when all done, but i would have been tired if i drove 8+ hours in a car.
I recommend getting a good seat.

Over 20,000 miles on my Fat Bob and many 500-700 mile one day rides (2 up) and no complaints yet. Stock seat and a Butty Buddy for the wife and all is good.

Matt,
So with that setup you haven't taken a long trip yet?.....Shame on you!

I'm on my 2nd Dyna and I've never done more than 300 miles in a day but I don't see how it would be a problem. Have to say my Heritage was perfect for touring. I realize I can put them on a Dyna but the floorboards on my Heritage really made for a comfortable ride. I miss stomping on that heel-toe shifter too. I also had a custom C&C fastback that was awesome.
