That's the best way to ride, staying off the interstates.

2,500 round trip to Sturgis this year on my Street Bob, no problem.

I've done road trips on sport bikes, dual sports, and cruisers. its not about how long the trip is, its about getting your ride set up for comfort. comfortable reach for handle bars, feet positioned in a relaxing position, and most importantly a good seat. if you cant get a custom one done, try some one like 'mean city cycles' and one of there modifications. When your Butt starts hurting, thats usualy the end of the ride for that day. its rare that you can buy a motorcycle that is set up perfect for the rider for long trips, you have to make the little changes to get there. I've had days where i have ridden anywhere from 250 miles to 850 miles, one up and two up. its all about getting your ride set up for your comfort.

I just did a 3300 mile trip in August through the Southwest on my FXDF Dyna Fat Bob. And I agree that the seat makes all the difference. Picked up a C&C seat with driver backrest and clocked a 500 mile day, a 600 mile day, a 700 mile day and finally an 800 mile day. Without the backrest probably would have been to busy fighting the wind (I had no windshield) and hands would have been useless stubs from the vibration and wouldn't have ridden so long for so many hours. That said get any kind of cruise control, many to choose from on the market, then you can relax either hand, ride without hands, or whatever floats your boat but the ride will be most enjoyable with cruise control and a driver backrest.

Bigg Lou,

Please post a link for a cruise control system for a Dyna. I have a 2005 and have never found one that works on a Dyna. I've found and use a throttle lock, but can't find any true cruise control for a Dyna.

FWIW, My son and I use one of these on all our bikes. Works great and cheap. I wanted a cruise control like I had on a Road Glide, but couldn't find one...dd50

Well...I know this is all about dyna, but if anyone is looking for a softail solution may want to look here...This is the kit I'm getting. I'll keep searching for one for the dyna, and you never know, this may be able to be retrofitted to the dyna with some modification.

I guess "cruise control" might have been a bad choice of words. I've looked at all the electronic ones and not to my tastes, far to much work to install and just looked fugly. The one I settled on is the Cruise-Mate @ http://www.cruise-mate.com/Products.htm. Uses the existing locking location, matches by blacked out bike, very easy to use even with thick winter gloves, can still throttle down or up, looks great as if belongs there.

Cool thing is if you don't like it return it and they'll pay you $20 for your troubles. Now that's confidence in your product.

By the way I've tried all sorts of "cruise controls" such as
1. http://www.2wheelride.com/throttle_pro.html ... Got in the way of my hand comfort location
2. http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/36/ISO-Throttle-Boss ... Not exactly a cruise control but helps, but also never could get it in a comfortable position
3. http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/ ... Worked great but to gaudy looking and they don't have black
4. http://www.rattlebars.com/mtz/invisible.html ... Just couldn't seem to locate the sweet spot of holding and releasing on demand also just to bulky for my tastes
5. http://www.crampbuster.com/ ... Not a "cruise control" either but helps, just a hassle to take on and off and still requires hands-on

So there you have it, my preferred "cruise control" is the Cruise-Mate with lifetime gaurantee, TRUE money back satisfaction, small, unseen, easy to use vs. all the others I tried and listed that just don't match up to the Cruise-Mate.

Once again, driver backrest & "cruise control" or "throttle holder" for a comfortable long trip ride! Everything else would just be icing on the cake (winsdshield, music, air-ride, topless hottie passenger, etc)

Ive done 5+ hrs on the stock seat once (2010 Street bob) and I could barely get off it when I got to my destination lol really my lower back was killing me. I got the Mustang solo seat on it right now and did the same ride plus some ( about7 hrs ) and had no problems. Your ride has sooo much to do with the seat so thats where i would start.
