Default 97 Dyna / Burning oil?

Decided I'd post a question before hauling Black to the mechanic.

I bought this bike with really low mileage. It sat for 3 years with the odd start up to keep pistons lubed.
Gaskets and front tire is all I've spent. There has been a fair bit of custom, lowered, chrome, straight/drag? bars, dual discs on front ect but as far as engine it is still stock 1340cc.
The lifters sound a little loud to me, however I've been told they are fine.
Spark plugs don't tell me too much. Having a time adjusting fuel as I removed straight pipes and put punched out baffles to get a bit more back pressure. Previous show of back firing and 20 minute warm up disappeared with new semi baffled pipes. Running lean took some adjusting but think it's under control now.

1410 kms I was down a litre of oil. It doesn't puff when starting, no matter how long since last start. Doesn't look/seen to be "burning" when riding. There is no leaks. Under power, shifting on a climb I have been told a puff is seen, but also been told thats the pump giving a kick of fuel.

The mileage at present is 41,000 k. I'm wondering if it could be the oil I'm running?? Switched from Harley Oil to Quaker State bike oil. This oil change is to be Penz oil (spell?) for higher heat range. Dumb question maybe, but I'm open to all your knowledge... thanks guys

A lot of bikes use some oil. Maybe it wasnt filled up all the way at last change. Top it off and keep an eye on it for a while

Conventional oil vapourizes quicker than synthetic. Try a different brand on your next oil change. A straight 50 will vaporize less than a 20w-50. Use amsoil or red line and see if consumption subsides.

I'll try a different oil for this year.

Bought it in 2009, end of the season at a Toy Run. I was riding the bike to sell for owner... and never gave it back.

Put just over 20thou local island in 2 summers as I'm tied to my job. Watching oil consumption was thinking of getting the top end done during down time ... maybe I'll leave it one more season then.

Anyone else with Dyna's find they burn a lot of oil? or you guys talking this specific bike.
