I am trying to get a list of tools together that I think I will need right away since I pick up my bike this month. I figure that a torque wrench will definitly be one that I use over and over again. What size torque wrench do you all recommend getting? Also any preference on brand? I dont need top-of-the-line, but would like something that is reliable without breaking the bank. Thanks......
If you watch for sales, Sears has nice clicker torque wrenches in inch pound and foot pound sizes for $59 (usually $79). And you don't need them for basic oil changes, if that's what you're planning.
I'm a Pro-helicopter mech. so I have a lot to choose from. The ones I use the most are: 1/4 Dr. 5 to 50 in. lb. (seldom) screws and small hardware.
1/4 Dr. 30 to 200 in. lb. (often)
3/8 Dr. 100 to 750 in. lb.(often)
1/2 Dr. 25 to 250 ft. lb. (seldom) for wheel axles mainly.
All are micrometer style adj., ratchet head, bi-directional. w/ audable click.
Dial type are alright. Don't waste your money on a "twin-beam".

Thanks for the inputs. I didnt even think about one for inches, or spokes, thanks for bringing that up. The first thing I will need one for (i am guessing) is to put on my exhaust which is already at home in the garage waiting for me. Most of my tools are craftsman and klien (for electrical), probably will stick the the craftsman, hopefully I find them on sale as mentioned!
Depending on your plans - most mods can be done with 3/8" drive & getting in/lb & ft/lb covers pretty much everyting you need/want to work on the scoot. Sears just had the 3/8" in/lb one on sale last week for $49.99...same one I have & works great.
Gearwrench makes a good tq wrench at a good price. I've got a 3/8 GW ftlbs a 1/2" craftsman ftlbs and a 1/4" snapon inch lb (rarely used). All quality wrenches..
