Default SE Ventilator filter

its service time.
does anyone know if the filter element that comes with the SE ventilator is cleanable/washable, or do you just get a replacement one, like the stock item?
it came new on the bike from the dealers, so no instructions.
thanks.

If it's paper then it's a one timer. You can buy a K&N replacement then clean it out with dish soap. K&N sells recharge kits for there reusable filters.

I think the one you are talking about is meant to be washed and dryed with no oil, it's been a minute so I could be wrong.

The original filter IS PAPER, it is unwashable, you will have to buy another element, i switched to K&N.

or did it run ok?.

No, from original to K&N runs fine, but it was tuned before hand.

The original filter is not paper, don't throw it out I think it is polyester. On their own instruction sheet it says how to clean it. This is copied from the download on the Harley product page.

MAINTENANCE
Air Cleaner Element Maintenance
NOTES
This is a dry air filter. Do not apply oil to the filter element.
When servicing the air cleaner, apply Loctite 243 - Blue to the
threads of all fasteners.
1. See Figure 2. Remove the air cleaner cover (4) and inspect
the filter element (3) every 5000 miles (8000 km), or more
often under dusty conditions.
2. Clean the filter element as follows (see Figure 1):
a. Remove and wash the element by immersing it, on
edge, in a shallow pan containing enough Air
Cleaner/Degreaser (1) to cover no more than three-
quarters of the depth of the filter pleats (2), about
0.375 inch (9.5 mm). Do not allow dirty solution to
get inside the element. Carefully "roll" the element
in the solution around its perimeter (3) until the entire
outer surface of the filter pleats has been soaked.
b. Remove the filter element from the cleaner/degreaser
and allow five minutes for the cleaner to dissolve the
dirt.
c. From the inside out, rinse the element with cold water.
Shake off excess water, and allow the element to air
dry. Do not dry with compressed air.
3. Install the air cleaner element and cover.

1. Air Cleaner/Degreaser solution
2. Filter pleats
3. Roll filter element in solution around perimeter

Mine fell apart like paper 1 week after following those exact instructions, let it dry overnight, a week later it had holes through it. therefore i see it the same as paper. K&N is just much better and worth every penny.
