This link below is for grips I ordered. I may have ordered blindly though. I have the 2007 Dyna Street Bob with the mini apes. I may go to Chrome Mini Ape and I am sure they are the same size as the stock. Well two late I have ordered them(the grips) and I noticed it needs throttle sleeves. What am I getting myslef into with these grips? What needs to be done to have these installed? I looked up Throttle sleeves and many talk about needing to cut off 4 inches of the bar and such? [&:] Thanks
never heard of a throttle sleeve before. Did a search on their site and they only sell one set. Said they were for billet grips.
I would just wait until the show up and see what they look like compared to your stock (function, not form). The stock grip should slip right off. You have to take the switch housing assembly apart, disconnect the throttle and idle cable (being carful not to bend the cable, and being VERY VERY careful not to drop the little brass ferrel thingy - they dissappear like magic when they hit the ground).
You should be able to tell if your new grip will work before taking all that **** apart... just take the switch assemby apart so you can see in there. If the grip is the same length, and has the same cable channels and connector grooves, you should be OK.
it just means they don't come with a throttle sleeve. (the plastic insert that is in the throttle side grip that your throttle cables attach to) Really not a big deal but you should've ordered one when buying the grips. Sometimes you can get lucky and peel the stock grip off the original sleeve without destroying it and glue your new grip on the old sleeve.
You should be able to peel the rubber cover off your stock throttle grip which will leave you with the hard plastic sleeve. With any luck, this skull/bones/eagle spirit thing will slip over the stock sleeve.
Thanks guys. I thought it should be easy...but when the throttle grips I was seeing was talking cutting the bars and stuff...well I started getting worried. Then I was worried I ordered non compatible grips or that need a lot customization to make them work.
