Was at dealer yesterday doing some bike shopping & the salesguy got
started on extended warranties. These warranties they're trying to sell
ARE NOT TRUE EXTENDED WARRANTIES !!!!!! THEY'RE CONCURRENT WARRANTIES.
What this means is that they're running at the same time as your factory warranty,
you buy a 3 year plan & in reality get 1 year since both factory & extended are
running together.
My opinion is to avoid these things like AIDS; don't really think they're that great
except for maybe the tires.
my $.02, think what you will.
i bought the service plan the one that does everything for your 1000,2500,5000,7500,and10,000 check-ups and so on for every 2500 miles.for 1500.00 for 3 yrs unlimited mileage i have used it 6 times in 1 yr so it has paid for itself allready and i have 2 yrs left still.but i wouldnt recommend spending that kind of money if you only ride a little bit 2500-5000 a yr.i average about 10,000-15,000 miles a year,so the plan is great for me.
I have had several extended warranty's and lost money on all of them. If you do any maintenance yourself you have to document the crap out of it or they will deny the claim. I will never buy another one. Plus if my vehicle is not well designed or manufactured enough to avoid major malfunctions then I'm heading for the Honda dealer. The concept that manufacturers won't stand behind products is total BS.

ill agree with you on the extended warranty, waste of money
I disagree that the extended warranty is worthless. Its priceless if you consider the peace of mind that you have knowing that for 4 years after the manufactors warranty has expired your I'm covered. Mine was $1,300 for 4 EXTRA years after the manufactors warranty- so in effect its a 6 year warranty ( Yes I know it runs along side the manufactors 2 year initial Warranty ). I figure if my engine blows - clutch fails- tranny craps the bed - electrical/strater problems after 2 years ...its paid for. So is it worthless? Nah , just some people dont see the need for it and hopefully you or I wont ever have to use it but for me Knowing its there if needed makes it worth it. Also if I ever decide to buy another Harley in the next few years the remainder is transferrable to the new bike or If I sell the bike The new owner gets it. OR at any point I can sell it back to the dealer ( but at a pro rated rate that dramaticly drops after the 1st year ). Can I wrench on a bike you ask? Oh ya , Im an Aviation A&P Mechanic and work on Multi Million Dollar Aircraft daily but that doesnt mean just becuase I can do the maintanance its not worth the extra warrantys. I do my own services and have the reciepts to prove it if something goes wrong but I will still be covered If a Major failure occurs. And for $1,300 bones... that my friend is truely cheap for 6 years of not having to worry about it.
