What are (in your opinion) the pros/cons of forward controls? I'm seriously thinking of switching over from mids very soon. I'm about 5-11" with long legs and kinda feel bunched up on the bike sometimes. Is there a learning curve, or any getting used to? Thanks!
I've only been riding for about 6 months. Bought an fxdc with factory mid controls then switched to forwards about 3 months in and it felt completely natural after a week at most. I'm 6-2 with long legs. I liked the control of the mids but my control seems good with forwards as well and they seem like a more natural position for my legs. Of course I don't know enough yet to really tax the bike so someone else could tell you more about that.
Sometimes when I'm getting on it hard, and the wind is blowing, it's hard to keep my feet on the pegs. It's awesome!
As for mid's, I could never use them. I'm 6'4" and 280lbs... mid's were never an option, though having some pegs for long trips might be nice. As it is now, I will use the passenger pegs for another foot position on those long rides.
I'm only 5' 7" and bought my 2011 FXDF Fat Bob and she came with forward controls. I love 'em. I thought they might be too far but just right in my opinion.
the biggest obstacle for you will probably be balance and braking. both just take some getting used to. i think as a taller rider you will be much happier

I'm 6'3" and 250lbs, I use mids, I do have highway pegs though
I bought the bike with forwards on it. If I bought it new, I would've left the mids on and added highway pegs. I'm going to add the mid pegs back on this winter, I like having options to put my feet on longer trips. I also think it would be easier to fight the wind with my feet on the mids.
