WHY DONT YOU GUYS JUST BUY FORWARD CONTROLS AND YOU WONT HAVE TO GO THRU THIS CRAP AGAIN....JUST A SUGGESTION
Actually, I use FW cotnrols and I have some rub on my exhausts... if you get a passenger at some point, it may happen that the passenger leaves some rub onto the bike.
I am posting this to save other people the trouble that I went through trying to remove very bad boot burns on my chrome pipe. I tried acetone, using a nickel, using a razor, Never Dull, and Goo Off and did not come close to getting this burned-in material off the muffler. All the nickel and the razor did was leave scratches. I would definitely not recommend scraping with anything.
Finally, I tried Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner...Eureka! Do yourself a favor and forget any other suggestion for boot burns, including oven cleaner, and use Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner. This stuff is a paste that you put on a soft cloth and wipe on the burns when the pipe is hot. The burns come off effortlessly and this stuff does zero damage to the chrome and you do not have to risk spraying it in the wrong place like over cleaner and losing paint.
It works instantaneously and goes through the burned on material as easily as a hot branding iron would go through a stick of butter. It is so good; it should be sold in all motorcycle shops. They should repackage it and sell it as Faultless Hot Pipe Cleaner.
I don't know about Bar keepers Friend , but Comet has a fine abrasive in it and would probably eventurly dullor rub off the chrome finish on the pipe.
If that stuff looks like and feels like Comet when you use it, I would use something else.
That's just not so, +1 on "Bar keepers" to Speed8988. That stuff has been around longer than dirt. It's non-abbrasive and works well for polishing just about anything. Ever that proverbial turd! Use to use it to polish water spots off of auto glass before the days of glass-top cook stoves. Oh, by the way, that stuff works well also.
