I was wondering about putting Forward controls on my new bike.
I just got back from a quick ride and decided I love EVERYTHING about the new bike but I would like to add Forward Controls like i had on my sporty but was curious as to what it will entail. Is it an expensive addition? Are they an easy install or will bike need to be taken to Harley? Thanks for the help!!
Probably about 300-400 bucks and you can do it yourself. I would post a add for an even trade for your mids. There are certain dyna's that only come with forwards and some people prefer the mids.
you could just get forward pegs for crusing. much cheaper and esier to install. me i like my forward controls and hav e thought about just getting mid pesgs. this way when crusing i can move my feet to another poisition.

I has highway pegs but i think i still want forward controls mainly because thats what i'm used to from my other bike. would you ever consider swapping your forward for my mids? I would pay for your shipping.
would never consider getting rid of my forward controls. very comfortable for me. i was just thinking of picking up 30 bucks in mid pegs for that different footing.

It was the first mod I did to my bob. You will need to take off the primary drive and housing. If you don't have one, get a service manual. Take your time and enjoy wrenching on your bike. It's much more gratifying to do your own work.
I converted my '11 fxdc to fwd controls. I think it was about $350 for the HD kit. It took me a couple hours but was fairly easy to do. You dont have to remove your primaries if you don't want to. I just unhooked the shifter lever from the OE shaft and pushed the shaft in and wedged the lever on the inboard side of the primary behind the top left trans to motor bolt. Mines been like this for a year now and never moved. The kit provides you with a new lever to mount on the trans but I didnt use it. Not using this new lever only results in a shorter shift throw but I liked it once I got use to it. It is harder to find nuetral set up like this but it was hard to hit nuetral with the original set up anyway. If you actually want to remove the original shifter shaft instead of wedging it behind the bolt as mentioned, you can just cut the shaft with a hack saw blade rather than tear the primaries all apart. Hope this helps.
I installed forward controls on an '05 Dyna I used to own. I left the original shifter shaft in place in case I ever wanted to change back to mids. Harley sells a little cap (held in place with a set screw) that is normally used on a heel-toe shifter shaft when the heel portion is removed, it covers the splined shaft. This cap works well to cover the original shifter shaft if you want to leave it in place when installing forward controls.
