Hey guys... recently having charging issues... i keep a tender on it when not in use...even if using the next day. Over the weekend the bike wouldn't start after eating at hardees with the old lady.... "fun" got it home..etc.. I had forgotten to hook up the tender the night before after riding all day on saturday... we rode another 120 miles on sunday before the "no start" after eating on sunday.
Fast forward today... The bike cranks up this morning, i carry the tender with me to work..plug it in..etc..
Get home later today "30 miles" let it sit for awhile "no tender".. and check with meter.. 12.93v..... So i crank it up and hook up the meter.... it shows 12.41v with high beams on... we increase rpm's to just past 2k and it only increases to 12.50-12.61v... on the meter...
Thinking a bad connection maybe... regulator..stator..etc? It is getting a small charge, but not much with the rpms increased... leading me to a connection issue... what u guys think
The question is, is it the original battery? have you had your battery tested to see if it's holding a charge? if you have the original battery since I see your bike is a 2002 that would make it a 10yr old battery
sounds like a weak stator to me. Never fooled with them on a Harley but have done more than my share on Hondas. A stator doesn't always work or not work. It could be getting weak.
Yeah that's what i was gonna ask next... can a stator get weak... Not sure of the age of the battery, but i don't think it is original. It will show a complete charge on the tender
It's cheaper to try the battery first, and it sounds like you could be due for one anyway's. If that doesn't fix it............stator. You could get your battery tested but even that doen't always show if it's holding charge properly.
