Default V&H baffle change made easier

After changing out the baffles in my big shots, I started to think, "why in the hell do they make you take off the heat shields to change the baffles out. So,... I removed the shields again, measured the distance to the retaining bolt, and drilled the shields so next time, I won't have to remove them to pull or change the baffles out.
First, I measured and marked the location on the heat shield.

used a center punch to start the drill and drilled a 3/16 pilot hole. Then used a unibit (step drill) to make a 5/8 hole so the bolt would be easy to get out.

Pardon the crappy pic, it's hard to get into a position to take a picture of the inside of the pipe, but you get the idea.

Worked out great. Now if I just want to run without the baffles, they're easy to remove and reinstall.

Do you think it was put under the shields like that so if it vibrated loose you wouldn't lose the baffle? I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Don't know, but every time I've changed/removed the baffles, that screw was as tight (or tighter) than when I installed it.

i have changed my baffles about 5 times now and everytime i do i think about doing this mod. it would make it so much easier, but my dumbass never does it. i was thinking of throwing the qq baffles back in. and now i have to pull the heat shields off again. great mod to do on these pipes. i also thought about the screw backing out, but everytime i took my baffles out the screw was tight.
