Default Exhaust??

So I'm recently a new owner of a '12 FXDWG, and god does the exhaust sound like a lawn mower. I'm currently looking into a new exhaust, and am wondering whats the best way or least expensive? Slip-ons and will I need to do the air cleaner and dyno or go towards a full system which will be more in cost. Thoughts??

Thanks

I have an '11 WG with Rush 1.75 slip ons and stock A/C.... just ordered V&H Short Shots with quiet baffles. Definitely go with a full exhaust and save some time and $$$

lots of people on here will tell you not to waste time with slip-ons including me! you will squeeze more power out of a full 2:1 system. Good slip-ons are 3 to 4 hundred $ you can find deals on full systems cheaper or for just a few extra dollars. My slip-ons wound up on a shelf in no time and they are still there. There is like a catch 22 with harleys, the minute you get something lessr your happy for a short time and it's time to start over again. My advice in for a penny in for a pound!

I tried the Rush 2" slip on's and then the Cycle Shaack slip on's. Both were decent but not what I was looking for in sound or performance. Went with the V&H short shots and and very happy with them. I would recommend going with the full system I think you will be happier in the long run.

My 2 pennies worth- first off, decide what you really want. Just a mean sounding bike? Get some some short shots and a more open intake with at least a Stage 1 download, best work with your dealership here to protect your warranty. Better sound and performance? 2-1 with an intake and a tuner, again better work with the dealer to protect the warranty. Pennies tight and just need a little rumble, then get some slip-ons, keep it under 2" baffle and you can live with some decel popping, no need for anything else. Reliable daily driver? Then keep it stock and learn to live with the angry lawnmower Don't matter what you do to the exhaust and intake, it will never sound close to like an evo or shovel unless you swap the cams out.

If would say getting rid of the cat should be first on the list, i dont know what you have to do to dig it out, or even if it can be done. If you can dig it out of the head pipes, then try a set of cheap slip ons, I had a set of cycle shack slip ons on my bike and the only reason i went to a full system is because i installed it at the same time as i did the cams. Also i went 2 into 1 just to maximize the cams.

anyhow, i digress, full systems are nice, but if you are mainly concerned with saving money, the CS slip ons sound good, look classic and open up the breathing (after of course you get rid of the cat)

Easiest way i am guessing is to get a full system, then you may as well get an intake and tuner at the same time. Fuel moto does a pretty good deal on the power visions, and intake kits 550 for the pair i think, then a nice set of pipes another 500-600 and you are good to go. You will really be surprised how much your bike wakes up.
