Default Bars Changed - Wild1 Chubby Outlawz 12"

Hey Guys,

Happy easter

Just changed my bars to Wild1 Chubby Outlawz 12" on my 2012 SB.

Took about 2 hours start to finish

The wiring connections are now TINY! Im sure this is due to CAN bus on the 2012 Dyna's. Anyway, no taking apart of the wiring involved, the connectors are small enough to pass through the bars. Used a small socket tied to fishing line and dropped that through the bars. I disconnected the fuel line and moved the tank back slightly but not certain that was really necessary. A 4 pin connector on the left and a 4 pin connector and single connector on the right. Tied to the fishing line and pulled through very easily.

Due to the integrated risers the 1" clamping area is about 2mm too narrow and as I screwed the risers down the bars have slightly compressed the alloy but you have to look hard to see it. Also had to drop the fork legs about 1/2" in order for the bars to clear the top of the legs.

I've used the OEM grips and removing the left was one of the longest jobs, however, they have internal groving so a few drips of 3 in 1 oil and a good twist for 20 mins and off it came.

All original cables used, however, I would say that if I had gone with the 14" bars (I wanted these originally but they were out of stock with no avail delivery date here in UK) I dont think the throttle and idle cables would work. Wiring wise there is about 300 miles of the stuff so no probs there and the clutch cable seems to be lengthy enough, however, you may need to adopt the age old method discussed here often, of routing it down the right hand side.

No pics yet as I have a few more mods Im doing at the end of the month and want to get everything together, however, its starting to look the way I eventually want it to look. Maybe 14" bars next year, but Im 5'6" and not sure how comfortable they would be with my short arms!! lol

Had visions of it being a nightmare but I promise you there is nothing there that anyone with a decent tool kit couldnt do.

Cheers

Nick

I searched long and hard for all info concerning changing my bars before doing it today and not once did I find any info regarding the fact that 2012 Dyna bar wiring will slide straight through the bars and not require dismantling as it does in previous models.

I felt this info alone was worth a post.

I also mentioned in my initial post that pics would be coming at a later date

Once again, really sorry for taking up the space, it wont happen again. Promise.

Dude, this is the internet! You can't talk about your new bars without showing them off!

haha, congrats on the new bars. I wouldn't mind getting some 14" tall 1 1/4" chubby bars to replace the stock 12" on my Wide Glide. I just can't justify the cost for 2" at this time, though.

Default Quick question for you Nick

Hi Nick,

I am going to install the same bars on my Street Bob. I am also barely over 5.7" and am trying to decide between the 10" and 12". You feel comfortable with the 12"? I do like my bars going straight up and down as opposed to leaning back which is why I am somewhat considering the 10" inch. I may be wrong but I feel I can push the 10" forward a bit more.
