Stator Failure
So a few weeks ago my bike started acting up, the digital part of my speedo, the light on it and the trip area would go blank while riding was hard to notice less it was night and all the sudden couldn't see the speedo. Didn't affect drive-ability, but after this would happen and it came back on the check engine light would pop on for short time at start ups, so I checked the codes and had high voltage to speedo, and loss of speedo to ecm. I checked fuses, wiring, the molex plug connection to the speedo everything. Couldn't find a damn thing wrong. The problem persisted until last week the check engine light and the battery light came on and stayed on. After further diagnostics the Stator failed and fried the voltage regulator. The primary fluid smelled like a damn electrical fire, The voltage regulator when it was getting voltage from the stator, was putting out 28volts. After tear down the stator had 3 visibly melted coils and all three of the wires tested positive for continuity to ground. This is a 2009 Dyna Street Bob, that has been properly maintained from day one, it is costing me 500$ just in parts to fix it, good thing between my dad and I we turn our own wrenches. The shitty thing is this happened right after doing the 20K service.
