speedo cutting out
ok, so the speedo and odometer keep cutting out on my 99 NightTrain. When the bike is at a low idle, my odometer is displayed, and both work up to about 10mph. If I rev the engine at all or go faster than 10, but the speedo and the odometer cut out. The light still works, but thats all. The onboard speedo diagnostic says "speedometer power overvoltage." I assume I have a bad voltage regulator. I just wanted some opinions before I pull the trigger on the regulator. Thanks!

I had the same issue. The voltage regulator will cause the speedometer to cut out around 10 miles per hour. Replace the voltage regulator and the problem should go away. Check the voltage at the battery when the bike is idling with a digital multimeter. It should be around 12.7 volts. Now increase the rpm's and if the voltage goes above 14.3-14.7 volts then the regulator needs to be replaced.
