changing dyna tanks
My nephew has a 2007 dyna superglide. (the one with the speedo on the bars) He has to get a new tank and wanted to get the speedo off of the handlebars at the same time.
The question is: Whats involved in switching his tank with the custom tank or maybe even a dyna low tank? What model number tank does he need? He'll need the built in speedometer, the cover for the speedometer and ???? Will the wiring and speedo cable work with the new stuff? Will all the functions work like my superglide (like the gas mileage cal. clock, ect)
It seems like it should be fairly easy to switch out...what problems do you all forsee?
Would it be best to try and round up the parts off of e-bay? Anybody have a complete set up they want to sell?

i did this...
1. streetbob tank off ebay
2. streetbob dash and indicator lites from forum member
3. you need the wiring harness... got mine from dealer
4. new tank access panel gasket and the self sealing screws... dealer
Your FXD speedo will fit right into the streetbob dash..
pretty easy swap...

So the same speedo that is now on the handlebars fit in dash?
How much was the wiring harness?
Do you have a part number on which tank to use? Are there multiple tanks you can use?

I did a FXDI to FXDL tank with FXDB console ... if I were doing it again I would use the new '10 Wide Glide console ... the original FXD speedometer fits and it moves the switch to the console ... the Wide Glide console comes in either chrome or gloss black ...
It wasn't my thread ... but, I did a table of all the parts needed with part number and price (prices will be a couple years old but should give a ball park figure) ....

I originally reused my stock indicator lights under the FXDB bezel ... but, later bought the wiring harness and LED indicator lights (it was like $30) ... had to cut and splice the wires ... not too big a job ...

That's a nice list and I printed it for reference. My nephew just got back from the sand box and hasn't been on his bike in a year. It need to be serviced and he has a dented tank so we want to fix it up for him.
I think he would like the FXDL set up with the tach. I know I would have to get a tach in addition but other then that it shouldn't require too many mods?
