I f it dries on tape....it will lift when pulling the tape....some cut the edge with a razor blade.....but you run the risk of scratching whats underneath
Thats's exactly what happened...not too bad though. Did have to take a razor blade like you mentioned. Noticed that it gets "dirty" easy if you touch it too much. Just took a damp cloth & wiped it down... Looks good though! A lot of great advice on this forum.
By the way, I did find out that Plasti Dip does sells a Plasti Dip Primer, that makes a more permanent bond & makes it harder for the Plasti Dip to peel off.
I lined the edge of the plastidip on my tank with vinyl pin striping tape to keep the edge from peeling back. (It already started to from my thigh rubbing it when I ride. Works perfectly and I like the contrast of the gloss black tape and matte black plastidip.
I also figured out that tire cleaner works great to clean plastidip. I just spray it on (or onto a soft cloth) and wipe it away, cleans off the dust and grime and even gives it a very subtle shine.
Finally got around to doing my trees and lowers this weekend. Pretty easy, and this stuff works fairly well. Several spots I am watching, where cables rub and such...so we shall see how well it holds up for the long haul. But, for the money, it was well worth it. Took me about 2 whole cans. So with paint, degreaser, and scrub pads...it was a total of maybe $15 bucks. Tore everything apart early Saturday afternoon. Painted late Saturday afternoon. Did the clean-up and put everything back together Late Sunday afternoon. Me and the wife took a 100 mile ride Monday. Everything still looked like new. Here are a couple pics I took Monday afternoon while riding.
You can see a Plasti-dip chopped front fender in my Garage pic here.
My FXDX front fork brace was a matching black color so doing the chopped front fender worked out real nice.
As for durability and dust, I've not had any trouble at all.
Here in NE Tennessee the Walmart stores carry the stuff now, for less than $5.
This stuff is amazing I have used it on my bike yet but will soon be doing my lower forks and wheels. I have had it on my truck wheels for about a year and still looks like it did the day I out it on. It even lasted through an Idaho winter. I have friends that have done there whole cars.
Ok... I looked over "most" of the pages here... but not all. Has ANYONE done their wheels? I am dying to black out my wheel centers but not sure if I should have powder coated, or just do this myself.
Just found out the many uses for this. I happened to have a can laying around from when I sprayed some metal brackets down to hang my gun on the wall for a barrier between the metal... Anyways, just put 2 coats on my horn cover going to so 2 more after work.. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
