Hey Folks,
I'm really struggling with whether it's time to move up to a bigger bike. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their opinions on my situation! I imagine there will be some bias towards the Dyna posting in the Dyna forum but oh well.
So anyway, I started riding less than a year ago and decided to buy a brand new Iron 883 as my first bike. Since then, I've dumped a lot of money in the bike including Stage 1 upgrade, 1200 conversion, Progressive shocks and lots of cosmetic stuff. In total I'd say I've spent about 15k on my Sporty (sigh). I think the bike looks awesome but for long rides it's just death (I'm 5'10", 210lbs). So as I so often do, I impulsively decided the only solution would be to move up to a bigger more comfortable bike and after test riding a Street Bob at the dealer, found an 07 FXDB in great shape. Seller is asking 9k and I put a $500 deposit on it. It has a high flow air cleaner (not sure what kind!), Thunderheader, factory installed security system and 7000 miles. Basically I'm just posting in the hopes of hearing some opinions before I pull the trigger. I love how my sporty looks and handles but it's just not up to the job for long trips. So now the Sporty is up for sale on craigslist and I'm teetering on the brink of buying this Dyna. The challenge is that if I buy the Dyna, I know I'm going to dump a bunch more money into it. Does this upgrading addiction ever end?!? Do you guys think it's worth it to make the switch? I'm trying to rationalize buying the bike to myself with things like more comfort, better resale etc but the truth is I want more power and the roar of that Thunderheader...
Here's some pics of both bikes:

I think your Iron looks better than that Dyna in the picture lol.
Go for it if you want a Streetbob, apple vs orange, know what I am saying? Dyna has better handling, Sportster is quick, tough call bud! At least price is right on the Dyna, can't go wrong with that.
I traded my Iron in September for a 2011 FXDC, and it the difference is astounding. I do miss riding that little badass around town, but like you said, longer trips suck way bad. I'm 5'8" 250, and I absolutely love my Dyna. Good luck, and you'll make that Dyna your own in no time.
