What is the purpose of the spring? One on each side of the upper attachment. It is attached to the frame and for the life of me I can not see/understand what it is for?

It should be there to keep the shield from being blown off from a stiff tail wind. The spring should be tucked in tight behind that screw head. Test it. Pull from the front and it shouldn't come off till you lift the spring.
The circle-end should be fit over the slot in the bolt? I can't feature this shield being blown off, but I've not had a shield before either. I just installed it awhile back. Been riding without it. I've got a Windvest on the way so the Harley shield will go back hanging on its wall-hook. Thanks for the answer!
Lift the spring, pull it outwards, push it down and inwards into the bottom of the "mushroom" groove and it will secure the windscreen from coming off.
lol...simple ain't it? duh. Well, it will soon be back on its wall-hanger, assuming the WV 'out for delivery today' works out. The Harley shield is ok, but it's too tall and too 'official' looking. Thanks for the help, I appreciate them.
