I'm 6"1 and it's mid controlls all the way for me. I had forwards on my night train and I like the feel of mids way better. I would say keep the highway pegs and just run it how you have it.
I just switched to mids on my 2011 wg and also swapped out the trees for fat bob trees and went with superglide length tubes and wow what a difference. It's like riding a different bike. The mids go u way more confidence in the twisties.

Post some pics of that, sound like it would look interesting.
Wow I guess either I'm deformed or someone installed the mids wrong! I bought a 2012 FXDC because I really liked the look. I hated the mid controls. It felt like my knees were up under my chin and I'm only 5'9" with a 29" inseam. Took the bike right to the local indy and had forward controls installed. I have no trouble with corners and I don't mind a bit of noise on tight ones but the noise is usually exhaust scraping. I guess we all all different and have different likes and dislikes. To each his own I say.

I went sorta in the middle here, I installed FL foot boards with forward controls. These offer me control and comfort while not reducing ground clearence by a heck of a lot. I am an ex-road racer knee dragger and I have had the right side pan scrape one time at speed however since the boards articulate all there was is a little noise that's it. 95% of the time doing higher speed twisties there is plenty of clearence. I did have to do some custom grinding to clear my pipes on the right side rear mount but that took all of 15 minutes and some paint. To each their own and this was my route.
Bob
im 6'1" and had mids on mine for about 340 miles before my forwards came in. i ordered the harley ones when i bought the bike new. never looked back hated the mids. felt like i was cramped while riding. now i feel great while riding. did the install myself too and did take the primary off. didnt have a manual just called a friend who runs an indy and got the torque specs going back together. i did keep all the old parts though.
I'm 6'4, mids aren't an option. Before I got the bike from my dad, he had mids with highway pegs. When I would ride it I would keep my feet on the highway pegs and shift with the back of my boot heel
