Forwards all the way, i'm actually surprised at how many people run mids. I upgraded to forwards when buying the bike but they took a couple weeks to come in. I had mids and highway pegs, loved the highway pegs but hated having to move my feet back down to shift and brake. I have the Kuryakyn extended kit, they're nice, work well and we're easy to install. Good luck!

I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam. If I could only pick one, mids or forwards I would pick the forwards for comfort however mids for shifting just feels right to me. But I would go nuts without my highway pegs.
Mid shifting keeps my center of balance right,to me anyways.
On longer rides(stopping only for fuel) I find I will have one foot on the mid peg and the other on the highway peg,and vice versa.
Op,you already have the best of both worlds. You can stretch out for comfort without the shift lever in the way and when leaning hard into a turn you can keep your feet under you, which is far better for balance.
To each their own

Mids for the ability to lift your *** out of the saddle when needed.

I'm only 5'6 and mids feel a little cramped to me when I first get on them, but after about 3 minutes it feels fine. Personally there is no question they control better for me. My hwy pegs are nice for a break or leisure cruising. I operate the levers with my heels as others have mentioned if the mood strikes me. The floorboards I had on my Deluxe was the perfect compromise...might do it for my FB.

Surprised no one has mentioned the aesthetics of the bike. It's nice to have 2 positions to keep your feet on, but highway pegs look like garbage, and if you're gonna pick one over the other for comfort it's forwards all day long. Wanna drag knees? Buy a jap bike

I'm 6'3 I ride with forwards with the 3 inch extensions. I wouldnt want mids but when I ride a long time I put one foot on the primary and the other on the cam cover just to change things up.

mids definitely for one reason. with forward controls you have your controls and pegs forward. Usually you end up with one set of pegs on which to put your feet. They keep your legs in one position. With mids you can have two sets of pegs when you use hwy pegs as well. Having two places to move around to when on a long ride can really keep the legs from cramping up. I have to move around when I ride or I cramp up really bad. Your experience on a bike may be different. If you can sit in one spot comfortably all day long and not have to move around then forward controls may actually work for you.

This is a 9 second FXDX with kevlar brakes and cornering layout/suspension.
The mid controls are the only way you can spank Sport bikes with it.

Around here it's knows as a the Sport Bike Killer, on the TN and NC twisties.
The sound alone blows the grinders away.
