After selling my 07 sportster last week and buying a new switchback, I am now at a crossroads on what to do for an exhaust for it. Right now my 2 choices seem to either be the Bassani or the d and d full systems.
My biggest question is this, what is it about the switch back that makes so many of the other exhausts not compatible with this bike? Is it the small o2 sensors or is it the floor boards?
I loved the look of the v and h shortshots on my sporty and would love to have a similiar look on this bike if possible
My next question, is it possible to replace the entire exhaust system without either buying a tuner or having the dealer remap the bike?

Check out the samsonusa.com site. I think they got what you are looking for.

I was the proto-type fld for the bassani system. But I have the 2>1 as you can see in my sig. pic. It was developed specifically for the fld. Sounds like you are interested in 2>2? I don't know if either company is offering those yet for the FLD.
But here's the deal on the design issues Bassani dealt with in regard to the switchback 2>1:
The O2's were addressed by adapters...no biggie. The two main things that didn't work from their earlier off-the-shelf systems were the bend at the dipstick...you burned your fingers and also the elevation of the header at the board. They came up too high on the board. Consequently I had lots of boot marks. They also had to extend the length of the muffler to clear the bag.
They specifically addressed those issues and then really designed a nice system. I couldn't be happier. They are full and throaty sounding...beefy and under "ticket time" in regard to volume...even in Huntington Beach.
As far as a tuner? I did a dyno and put a PCV on mine. Without it? It will decel pop quite a bit. But after the above, when I decel now, it sounds like a jack brake on a semi and it has very nice power. Hope that helps.

Im not necessarily leaning towards a 2 into 2 system, just exploring options. I have actually been leaning towards either the d&d fat cat 2 into 1 or the Bassani 2 into 1.i do have to admit though I am pretty partial to the look of 2 into 2 systems.
Thank you for the info though, much appreciate it.
I would also like to find out why the V&H Shortshots & Bigshots specifically say "not for Switchback models" Those are my two favorite exhaust systems and I would love to put one of them on my new Switchback.
I may give them a call one of these days and ask them what the issue is with them.
I was looking into systems for mine. Ended up with the V&H slipon, AC and tuner for now. Trying to find someone who has killed the cat with that setup to see how it has worked out. Hopefully more exhausts will come now that the bike is a proven seller. Kurt
Thanks for the info guys...its hard to believe they interfere though...I wonder if they're just close and they don't recommend them because you'll be bumping your boot on them or something.
I found this youtube video which shows them on the switchback....
