There's a whole thread dedicated to whether someone should get a new gremlin bell for their bike. I stated that I thought they were dumb in so many words. I was told to "start your own thread". So I am.
Would like your opinion on "bells". I've been riding since 1965, and frankly never heard of them until a few years ago. To me, they are the modern day "rabbit's foot" which I also thought was childish.
Hey, a friend gave me one so out of respect I put it on the Sportster. SB came with a Bell and I just left it in place. My FB I was given a bell for but haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
Do they do anything....It is up to the owner and really not an issue. If you are an Atheist I don't think you have the right to get in my face over my beliefs.
If you don't believe in Gremlin Bells, You don't care about how someone feels that gave you one then don't do it.....Just say NO.
At the same time don't belittle people that may believe, were given bells as gifts.
It is all personal preference/opinion or belief and just like mods to ones bike you don't like it is better to say nothing than open one yap and let everyone know you are truely a #$$^%^&

They make me laugh. It kills me to see a "big bad biker" (read yuppie pseudo biker) with a big bad HD and a little fairy bell under his bike. Like seeing MR. T in a tutu.
Now, if someone that I REALLY cared about, like one of my daughters or my wife, gave me one, I'd probably hang it somewhere, where nobody could see it. But if one of my buddies gave me one, I'd probably say "what's next? You gonna ask me to dance?"
And THAT, my biker friends, is my opinion.
Oh, sorry to chime in on a forum that doesn't include my bike, but I couldn't help myself.
Do I believe that bells impart some sort of superstitious power to the bike they're attached to? No. Would I buy one for myself? No. But my best friend for almost 30 years and a fellow biker gave me one years ago. He died unexpectedly last fall at too young of an age. Will that bell stay on whatever bike I have from here on out? Hell yes. Do I care what anyone thinks? Hell no.
I was "downtown" and a guy reaches into his saddlebag and pulls out a Harley Bell,,,, and while Im well aware that my future is in Gods hands, I still think its cool.
Guess the thread pretains to me.Would I go to a gun fight with just a bell f#*king no,but for ***** and giggles why not fly one under my bike,I don't think your any less of a person weather you have one not.Mine was given to me by a great friend what I'm I suposed to do tell him no.I survived a pretty bad wreck a couple of weeks ago and I chalk it up to a lot of years in the saddle, you should try to motorcross with a wide glide I did and I'm here to tell you I don't think the bell had a whole lot to do with me still being here.IMO but any case there will be a BELL on my next bike.
