Was wondering if anybody had the plug n play sissy bar set-up. Putting National Cycle hard bags on my 99 fxdx, and having to change sissy bar set-up. My question to you if you have it, is it possible to change the Kuryakyn sissy bar with one that is taller. Wife wants one taller than they offer on the web site. Like will a factor taller HD one work.
Will it bolt up...Yes
Is it a good idea, depends on your passenger, it will not provide the strength of a stock setup for her to fully rest against.
I got rid of my Plug-n-Play but ran a tall bar on it for a while. I found that it tore up the nut inserts that hold it down to the fender, which is why I modded my fender (see pic below) to get rid of them. Even with the solid bolt up I decided to switch to a quick detach system so I could attach my bags to it. Now I can remove everything very easily.
The HD quick detachable is a much better setup.
