Default 150 70 16 on a FXDF Rear?

Stock size is 180 70 16, but I don't like the selection available, or the prices. Rim width is 5" Could I run a 150 back there?

I wouldn't just on looks. Also, the rim would stretch the tire too much. Avon makes a 160 that measures more like a 170. There are also plenty of 180/65-16 that are from the touring bikes. I would do that first. A little shorter than the 70 series, but a better choice than the 150.

A 150/70/16 is slightly less than 6" wide, probably not the best choice for a 5" wheel.

That wouldn't look good at all. From a fellow fatbob owner, look into the Avon Cobras they have a 200 that will fit on the stock rim. I was almost about to buy a trutrack, but I decided that to try the Avon tires first. I will not but a trutrack anytime soon, the Avon's are great, grip well in wet and dry riding. I have more confidence in the bike during turns. They also handle road snakes and cracks better also, did away with the unstable feeling in turns. I can't say enough about them.

Not to take away from Avons, since I have never run them, but Metzelers will also improve the ride just as you described, going from stock Dunflops to a good tire makes a huge improvement.
