I am thinking of getting a $12 piece of 1/4" steel and seeing what I can do with my torch and mini mill.

Or, you may just wind up with the shifter you really want, a one-off custom that looks great. The hardest part will probably getting it set up for the splined transmission shaft, but let us know how it works out, whether you love it or hate it. There are a lot of us on the Forums who have home made parts. Sounds like a new thread subject to me.

I would hack up a stock shifter from e-bay so I don't have to worry about the splines. If I decide to do it I'll post the process.
