I usually let my bike warm up for about 20 minutes. When the temp is around 90-100*F, I reduce warmup time to 15 minutes. Then I take off slowly for about 5 miles.
20 minutes f..ing funny. Reduce to 15 mins in 100 degree temps. Rofl. THENslowly for FIVE MILES. That anyone believed you and commented with cautions. Hilarious.
20 min? Thats a bit much and being that the bike is air cooled probably bad. A minute at the most is plenty. As long as Oils circulating and your easy for the next couple minutes your fine. As you ride it will heat up everything quicker.
I believe you've been had. It's my feeling that his post was tongue in cheek.
I'm with everyone else on this one. 1-2 mins max, easy ride out the neighborhood and you're good to go. 20 minutes is obviously excessive. When I had a bike with a carburetor, I would let it warm up a little longer as I didn't like running it with the choke on.
I start it up,put my helmet and gloves on,light a smoke then hop on and ride.
I take it easy for the first 5 minutes or so to let it properly warm up then give er.
I try not to rev it past 3000ish rpms until the bike is warmed up to operating temp.
20 mins to warm up? and then 20 mins waiting for it to cool off as the heat management is shutting the rear cyl off...
really, 1min, 1.5-2mins in winter. while I put my gloves on and get ready. then slowly 1-2 gear for another min. or two then progressively faster into 3rd and 4th. No WOT in the first 6 mins, most likely 10mins, probably overkill but I can contain my need for speed in the first 10 mins of my ride to be on the safe side.
i start mine then immediately red line the motor for one minute, then i ride easy for 20 minutes, let it cool down for 20 minutes, then repeat the entire process for 2 hours. after that i ride normally.
