I have been called strange, and a lot of other things but I actually like the looks of a bike with a windshield. When I bought my FXDC I had the dealer include a quick release. He said I needed a 15 inch one. Man was he wrong. What I got was a little over 14 inches and was like not having a windshield at all. Sold it and bought a National Cycle quick release. Installed it and hated it. 15 inches was still too short after adjusting it and National Cycle seems to be the only windshield made so it WILL NOT take a standard windshield bag! Put it on ebaybay and bought a Memphis Shade's Fat 17 inch to fit my new 9 inch headlight. Much better but I really could have used the 19 inch one. The problem is you don't know until after it is mounted and adjusted on your personal bike how much protection you will get. May order the 19 inch next year. Sure are a lot of other parts I'd like to have though. Many wants, few dollars!
Grumpy
It's always been fascinating to me how much motorcycle owners obsess over whether they look cool or not. If you have a windshield you don't LOOK cool?....and why do you care so much what other people think? If you have a windshield you can't feel the wind, it's like being in a car? Really?
Sounds like you don't like what you look like on a bike with a windshield because everyone else on the road thinks you look terrible. Oh no!!! What shall I do with myself??? I got it! Lose the windshield and act like everyone else cares about how me on my bike looks!!! You're riding for the wrong reasons if you claim to be so debatable over it.
I wonder how many of the cool (never catch me with a windshield) guys would change their minds riding in the Pacific Northwest? Ever hear of a rain forest? If I moved back to the Southern states I'd stow mine most the time and keep my mouth shut to avoid eating bugs

Lighten up Frances, its Frday. The only reason people read the posts about windshields is to see who says the most stupid remark. Congrats you win Sarge4. Its like when the metric riders make fun of Harley riders dressing like Pirates. Its what ever you like.
I guess it's really down to how you use the bike.
Do you go around town or do max 100mi trips? then a windshield is not necessary and I agree that the looks of the bike is penalised by it, especially a dyna.
Afterall we do buy Harley for the image, the heritage, the soul of it but especially the looks of it.
I often do 500mi weekend trips and occasionally double that mileage. Done it with and without a windscreen. Note that I've also done the trips without the windscreen after I purchased the windscreen for the sake of comparison. There is no question, the windshield makes a difference and I don't feel as tired with it compared to when i'm without it.
And that is the beauty of the QD screen. on when needed on long journeys, off in 5secs the rest of the time.
