Took a ride down I80 a while back when the winds were blowing 35-40 to start with. Crank it up to 80mph and it was all I could do to hang on. Got my butt off of the interstate the first possible exit.

So I ordered one. QD Street Shield from National Cycle. I was going to use it for long trips only and keep it off around town. Thing is a lot of my around town rides have highway/interstate driving on them so that's given me an excuse to keep it on.

I've finally come to realize I don't care what anyone thinks about me and how I look. I'm not riding to impress anyone. By the way its a FXDWG.

Im with you. I use mine early spring late fall when the weather changes. Its a deal breaker on a cool/cold day.

Yes. Cut it down. I had a local glass place take 3" off mine and it helped immensely.

We dont have much problems with bugs, but get caught out in the rain (typhoon season) about 50% of the time. Its great to have a windshield to block most of the rain and if you go fast enough, will deflect over your helmet.

Default Wide Glide Buffeting

Anyone get this buffeting? I'm average height, 5'11" and I have tried many positions behind my screen, as well as many speeds, trying to find a sweet spot. No luck so far. Just turbulence like a **** and I kinda hate it :/
Yes, I do get the buffeting on my '98 Wide Glide with a HD quick detach windshield. At speed, it is like getting "bitch slapped" all day (at least, that's what someone else said...). I'm hoping that some aeronautical engineer on this forum will explain how to modify these windshields or at least, figure out which shields provide the least buffet. I don't want to buy five different shields in order to find one that works.

I had a king size HD wind shield on my Fatboy years ago, and it would have a lot of buffeting with it. When I bought the used Sporty recently, it had the same design windshield on it, only smaller, and it did the same thing. It seems on the WG, it is much smoother. I can only think it's because of the greater rake angle of the front end so the shield is on more of an angle.

I ride nearly all the time with the quick-detach windshield on. My hands got tired of hanging on with a deathgrip just to stay on the seat. Got one of those riders friend luggage attached behind me and that really helps to be able to lean into it. Makes the longer rides much more enjoyable. Can still smell and feel the temp changes in the air without all the sand pebbles and bugs that go with it.
