Noticed this coming home for lunch, the only thing that was preventing the nut from sliding completely off was the retaining ring

I suggest you to check the drive sprocket bolts next, it will come shortly after.

I torqued it to spec, it just backed off. The dealer replaced the transmission a few weeks ago but I don't think they have to take the back wheel off to take the transmission out, do they? Anyway, I replaced the rear tire about three months ago; when I took the bolt off this time there was anti sieze all over the threads- that's why I think it backed off like it did.
