Default Switchback Bad Regulator Recall

Went out for a ride today and battery light came on, second time this has happened.

Read about entering Vin at HD website and sure enough, mine comes up.
But Harley hasn't shipped any to the Phoenix Dealer (Arrowhead HD).

If it goes completely out they can put the same kind back in, but until we get the "NEW" better made ones, it will still be no good.

I'll just keep trickle charging and not take too long of trips until then.

The service guy did say that the heat will cause it to shut down (105+ here) and then once it cools off will start charging again.

Good luck until Harley gets us a better one!

It isn't actually called a "Recall" it's under the "Product Program" category.

Product Notice: 0912: PRD PGM:2012 REGULATORS

When I talked to the dealership they used the term "recall" and were aware of it.

Maybe the newer models just coming out have been fixed if your VIN doesn't come out. Check with the dealer just in case.

Talking Regulator Recall Info

From a reference in the Switchback Owners Forum (at Proboards.com):

http://www.cyclefish.com/BikerNews/blog/2225/

It says (among other things)
"This product program applies to all 2012 Harley-Davidson models (except V-Rod) built approximately October 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012"

I purchased my Switchback July 25, 2011 and went to the Harley site and sure enough it isn't included. So, yours may be in the clear as well.

My Fat Bob has this "product program" listed for it. Dealer said bring it in & we will check the date code on regulator. Of course they don't have any in stock at the moment...
