So after my bike threw a check engine light and battery light I researched it and found that the 2012s had a voltage regulator recall. I have a 2012 Road King. I knew what it was but it being a recall wanted Harley to fix it. They did but told me my bike wasnt on the VIN list. Luckily, my bike is still under warranty for another month. It woulda cost me $280!!! the part alone is $200. The service guy said almost every 2012 has been in for the same thing, tho sometimes its the stator.
Anyway thanks to this forum for all the great info!!
My 12 was just in the shop and dealer said bad battery
Also questioned voltage regulator makes me wonder now if my battery is bad on a new bike because of that what were bikes symptoms?
Mech said replacing lots of 11 and newer batteries, his opinion was HD using diff supplier and new batteries are crap.

I was riding and both the check engine light and battery light came on. I researched and found that there was a recall on the 12s for faulty voltage regulators. However, the tech said my bike was not affected (according to my VIN). The checked the charging system and said it was charging as it should. They said the voltage regulator was getting hot. Which would make sense i guess. When i rode it to the dealer, the lights came on in the first minute of riding around the city. As soon as i got on the hghway (at 70mph) they went off. Rode all day today and they havnt come on. Hopefully its fixed. There was a 12 CVO ultra in there the tech said had the same issue. However, he said that the VR was replaced and that it was back in for a bad stator
I seem to be noticing a lot of these threads lately. Maybe I notice it more now because I just had my stator and VR replaced yesterday. Luckily it was under warranty. Mine also wasn't on the recall list
