Default Triple tree swap

I've finally collected the parts to put a wide glide front end on my Bob. Fat bob trees and a conversion kit from Hawg Halters.

Is this a straightforward swap, unbolt one and bolt up the other? Or is there anything more complex involved, I.e. is there any setting up involved with the steering head bearings?

Has anyone posted a step by step guide anywhere?

Thanks in advance

FB trees are a simple swap, head bearings are all the same and assuming yours are in good shape there's no need to change them, leave the races in place and swap the bearings to the FB trees but do clean and regrease them and get a service manual for the proper setup procedures and torque values.

Get a manual - best $60 you'll spend and you really shouldn't be doing a job like that without it.

Recently did the same, fat bob trees on my FXDC, pretty straight forward swap, took the opportunity to replace stock springs with the progressive drop in kit, you may need to change your wheel spacers on the axle depending on your hub, I was replacing wheels at the same time so had them build my front wheel based on the fat bob hub & just used stock fat bob spacers.

Love the look of the wider front end.

The Hawg halters kit comes with all the right spacers (I hope!) so the hub width should be fine.

Never heard of the "fall away", it's not like striped paint or a bucket of blue steam is it?

No, it is a procedure you use to adjust the preload on the neck bearings.

you MUST set the fall away and do it correctly.. If not you will get a wobble in your front end.. People have wrecked because of this wobble..

Fair enough, I'd never heard of that before. I knew the bearings needed adjusting but not heard of that test.
