I installed one today. If you don't know what it is, it's basically the same as a Big Sucker / SE open element air cleaner except it has a nifty "stinger cone" on the outside plate. (supposedly to direct more air into the carb)
Installation was super easy. It looks good. However, it sort of sounds like a vacuum cleaner sucking air in.
Is this just the nature of the beast? I've only taken it for a short ride so far (longer one tonight). I did notice my exhaust covers it up a bit while moving. (inb4 "get louder pipes")
I haven't re-installed the football yet......this was meant to eliminate it.
It is suppose to sound like that because it is a hi-flow air intake. I installed one on my buddies 2012 bagger and the fit and finish of the thing was excellent. I personally like the one with the hot rod clips
Thanks. After a long ride (100 miles) I've realized I don't even notice it.
I've seen those hot-rod clip covers.....those are cool. I'm going to try & cut my football down like others here before resorting to buying another cover.
Problem though & I'm pretty sure I know the answer. It seems a bit more sluggish now. I can definitely notice a different exhaust sound.
I have installed a 2-2 exhaust before the S&S AC.
Yes definitely go up a size or 2. With all the more air through the engine it needs more gas. Check out www.cv-performance.com/ I recommend you get one of their kits. Worked real niceon my 01fxdx.
I don't know about the Big Sucker or SE versions of these...but I like the fact that the bolts that attach the back plate to the carb are threaded into the plate, so there's no way they are backing out & getting sucked in.
