Default Miles to Km's?

I have a US bike that I imported back into Canada. I would like to change the speedo for the new ones offered by Harley that have the multicolour display/tach/speedo/fuel guage/gear indicator. (PN 70900071)
These combo's have to be plugged into the ecm to transfer your current mileage onto the new speedo. My question is: If I buy one that is in KM's, will the ecm transfer the Miles off the old speedo and convert it to KM's on the new one.
I need to know for certain because there are no returns if it doesn't.
Thanks All.

Thanks for the reply. The dealer says it can be done.....but my dealer has been wrong before. I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually done it.

Since the ecm is the same for US or HDI models and the speedo you want is the KMH version I don't see why it wouldn't display in KM - also you have just over 30 miles or 50km before the speedo is locked to your bike but if you are worried about it have the dealer do the install - it they are wrong its on them.

Go to your dealer with the amount of miles you have currently fill out a sheet with all info and what speedo you want HD will program in the correct amt of km. buying a speedo unprogrammed will not display anything if connected. I have gone from km to miles after i moved from ab to TX. Good luck took me a week or less to get my speedo.

These don't work that way, the speedo comes with a data cable to plug in and upload the mileage from the bikes ecm.

If its like the new dakota one i just installed I dont think it makes a difference,

Just plug it in then set the preference on th speedo once set I believe you get one go at setting the current milage/kilometerage (or what ever you say).

distance is distance so I would assume the ECM just does a quick calulation based upon what you say you want to display,

but dont ask me I didnt install that one, my brother put one in his fatboy did you want me ask him?

Thanks for the responses guys. I too think that the ecm does a quick miles to km calculation and then away you go. There is also a version of this speedo that reads and shows in both miles and km's so it does have the conversion ability I would think.
Thanks Again. I'm gonna give it a try.
