Default What's that smell??
07 fxd 103 stage 2 got a smell of good ol' gas when I was checking my oil don't know why any takers?

In case it matters it was checked about 3 1/2 hrs after a 25 mile ride home from work

How high was your oil level? Also what kind of milage are you getting? Could be a leaking injector.

I understand there was a complaint about a Switchback that had a powerful gas smell ... and accumulation of fuel from the fuel tank vent ...

Apparently, the bike had a lot of vapor from the fuel tank enter the vent system ... vapor reverted to liquid form and would drip out and puddle on the floor beneath the bike ...

I cannot think of any good reason why fuel would get into the oil ... the motor is a dry sump system that evacuates the oil from the crankcase ... the oilbag on the Dyna (A-type motors) is beneath the transmission ...

Was thinking over torqued plugs but they're good haven't noticed mpg difference and I smelt it this morning it smells very faint of gas now so I dont know what's up with it but found a new Indy gonna try them over the dealer before warranty expires

Not normally but I opened the cap to check the level and had a really heavy gas smell coming from it so I sniffed it 😁

i bought a sportbike new in 07 and it has the same smell to the oil after the first couple 1000 miles it went away so i quit caring.. not sure what would cause it tho.

Pretty sure you should check your oil when hot. 3 hours after you park it, the oil can't be very hot. Overtorqued plugs? I don't think so, but what do your plugs look like?

Also might check compression,rings might be failing.
