Well; got a good deal on a low mile FXDF with dealer installed 103 and 254E cams...put a pair of bags and a windshield on 'er and rode to Sturgis and back, a few observations:
BAD:
1. The FXDF is 100 pounds heavier and feels like it
2. Power is not the same as my other 103
3. In the 100 degree ambient heat, that motor is HOT and close to tender parts
4. Suspension is crap
5. More common
GOOD:
1. EFI is no foreplay starting every time
2. Fat front tire feels steadier on the road
3. Smoother, especially in 6th at high speed
4. More welcome in dealer service departments
5. More accessories
I'm keeping the FXDF and offering the FXDXT for sale; first buyer is meeting me Sunday. It was a ride I'll never forget and probably always miss but if I'm gonna make more miles, it's time to move on.....at least it's another Dyna. I did test ride a Road Glide for 3 days with a 120R motor; too heavy and too expensive...Dyna's forever!
How did you like the 103 with the 254 cams? I'm sure the cam was more mild than what you're used to, but that helped with the extra weight, right?
I'm sure the F makes a better tourer, but I bet you can get the big girl can dance well enough with proper suspension mods.
...well I can't fault ya...I have thought about the same trade myself as the DF is the only other bike that HD makes (other than a Street Glide) that half way interests me... Sharp looking but I'm just not a fan of the forward controls...
But I love the way the T handles and it can be striped down for around town or bagged up for a long trip...so it stays...

Wouldn't have given the bike a second look except for the motor work...it's better than my wife's 96 but nothing like my T. Even if she learns to dance better, she's still a big girl...
