Default Help: Throttle cables

Bike is an 01 FXDL.

I switched out my handlebars today & when putting the throttle cables back I must of screwed something up. My cables just seem to be floating & not opening or closing like they should.

How should I go about further diagnosing the problem?

Thanks

Did you maybe get the throttle and idle cables switched around?

Ok. I think I got it...but not 100% ..... I pulled on the cables before the adjustment (coming from carb) & they went back into place. They are on & working.

However. One time I was working the throttle back & forth & it sort of "gave" & I had to pull back on the cables again.

maybe just out of adjustment now.? it's kind of scary what would happen if it happened on the road. : )

edit#2. well i just pulled the throttle & let is snap back about 20-30 times.....it didnt do it again. guess i ll just see what happens & go for ride tonight.

When you put the cables back on make sure they are adjusted all the way out. Then turn the throttle until the butterfly in the throttle body is level. Adjust as needed from there. This will give your throttle the "springback" you need and then you can make minor adjustments with the adjusters near the throttle end

Thanks Steve. I went for a ride & I think I just need some minor adjustment now.
