Default Stock Dynas: Curious what speed you up shift?

To all stock Dynas, just curious what speed you shift gears at... (Not RPM)

This is my first Harley so I am curious if all Stocks are about the same. On my new 2012 Super Glide 96..

I Shift from 1st to 2nd @ about 15 mph
2nd to 3rd @ about 30-35 mph
3rd to 4th @ about 45 mph
4th to 5th @ about 55 mph
5th to 6th @ about 65 mph

Is this about what you all shift? Don't get me wrong, I do listen/feel the revs and attempt to shift correctly, but I am just curious if this falls inline with other stock Dynas.

I shift on my 08 about 5mph higher across the board.
Better a few extra rpm then potentially lug the engine.
Now that I've got it cammed and 106 I stay in 3rd til 50mph until I see enough open road to shift into a higher gear to cruise

You shift way too early. At 55 I'm still in 3rd.

Stock 103

I like to stay in the power band until I get to cruising altitude.

hmmm... I wonder if the shifting of a 103 would be different than my 96.
I really cant see still being in 3rd gear @ 55 mph on my stock 96

That could be. I don't cruise at 55 in third. I'll hit fourth and back off. I just don't like to shift early right as the power and is coming on strong. For cruising, I like lower rpms.

Id say yours is pretty close to my 96. Maybe a bit on the early side. Don't be afraid to give it a bit more rev's. Like others have said, it is better to rev up a bit than lug the engine. Besides, if you're worried about MPG, last time I filled up, I got 45mph. Which is too good if you ask me...

I think that your shifting pretty close to correct. These engines do like a little more RPM's though. I myself had a hard time finding the best shif points on my new Wide Glide. Using engine noises to judge the shift point will make you want to shift at higher RPM's. Adding aftermarket exhaust helped me. I personally believe that I can judge the exhaust note better for shifting.

thanks... I will attempt to give it a bit more revs before shifting.
Tell me... why is lugging bad? What harm does it do?
