I am a little over 6' and have long arms. On my bike with 14's my hands are just about shoulder height. I do have my bars pushed forward, but I still think 16's would be a little too tall for me. Maybe the reach on a Wide Glide is different?
I'm glad you said something because Im still torn on if I want apes and if I do what size to go with. Im 6'3 and was thinking about 14's. I dont want my hands any higher than my shoulder. We have the same bike.
it depends on the seat, also. I'm 5'11" and with my 12" bars with 1.5" risers, my hands are shoulder height with my Bare Bones seat. My C&C sport touring seat moves me up enough that I have to readjust my mirrors.
Oldman what fender trim are you running on the rear fender.
Rear fender trim is stock but planning on a after market sometime next year.

Back to apes, I am 5'9 and will be fitting 16's this winter. I got lucky and had the chance to ride a buds bike with 16's, felt just right.
The front I got from American Classic on E-bay with the fatboy fork (fatdaddy) . The rear is a 16" I had made up from company that I believe
went belly up, Its a fatdaddy. Both from DNA & no problems
I'm 6ft , run my bars straight up ( but gonna pull them back a bit ) I run a lot of slab with no problems. you do catch more wind , not sure if I would call it a kite effect because I never feel like I'm going to fly off or anything, just more wind compared to the T bars I used to run. I love the apes, no shoulder/neck pain
I'm 5'10" and I run 18's on mine. I've had a few bikes with 16's and I allways thought I should've gone bigger, so this time I did. I like them. They are just as compfortable as any of the 16's i've had.
I run with 18s and Im 5-11. I change the bar position depending on how far Im going,i.e. road trip. I like to keep them pushed forward. Like above poster said always go 2" higher.
Im 5'9 and have 15" apes that dont dip down much at all at the grips, probably real close to 16's. Never had an issue, ride them all the time...long distance. Always comfortable and always look great.
