Thumbs up Console Switch on '04 FXD

I got tired of practically giving myself a reach around when starting my SuperGlide, so I thought I'd try moving the ignition from behind the battery to the console as others here have done. I wasn't sure there was clearance under the FXD console, but JaronB gave me the dimensions and it looked close enough to try. Cutting through the console was a bitch! I thought it was just plastic. Drilling the hex head bolt holes on a slanted surface wasn't fun either. I'll pretty up the cut around the switch and it'll be golden. $30 shipped for the switch and about an hour's labor was well worth it. Thanks to those who posted this sweet mod.

Go to the hardware store and get a drain pipe chrone hole cover like they use for a sink. You will have to grind it to fit. Add a little silicone and cover the screws. Will dress it up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had no lick finding anything with a 2"diameter hole. In the meantime, I used to black silicone sealer to fill in and trim it out. Looks good, but I'm not sure I'll find anything to cover the screws. Home Depot and Lowes are no help. Need to go to a real plumbing supply place.

I feel your pain! No room on my dual-gauge console. I don't want to change it anyway. I'm bound/determined to figure a way to move the 'misplaced' ignition switch to the handlebar-clamp area......

I found a rubber grommet that fit the switch to keep the weather out as well as finish off the installation.

That looks good. My console is too shallow to install the switch with the screws inside it. They're going to have to show. At least they're symmetrical.

The one I got had a smaller hole. I got one so it would cover the screws and then had to grind the hole bigger. I use a Dremel with a stone tip and worked solwly. Grind some and check for fit.
