It would be much easier to just remove the speedo housing and lift up the plate to really get a good look at the inside of the tank! While you are in there just change the fuel filter and strainer sock! Filter is $25 and strainer is $15. Cheap if you figure the cost of a service charge!

I have just one more question about my motor, the engine seems to idle at a higher than normal rate now that it is cold! Now I already know that these FI engines are supposed to idle a little high till the temp sensor senses a warming of the cylinder before it starts slowly idling down. Now my question is. I have noticed at this high idle, the engine takes longer to start the idle down( because of the colder weather it should) and if I get on the bike immediately after I start it and at high idle, the minute I start to stand the bike upright to kick the stand back in preparation for riding, the engine automatically goes into a normal idle mode! Is this normal for these FI motors or is there still a problem with my engine? My friends RK doesn't do this and his is fuel injected also! Stumped and bewildered about this! Should I be worried or should I RIDE it?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds normal to me. I was waiting for someone else to chime in. If you aint getting any codes and your fluids are good drive it! If there's a problem let it develop till its diagnosable.

UPDATE. 365 miles and still running GREAT!. Just thought I would let everyone know about how Good this bike is running now. Came across another bike like mine that had Been sitting up for over a year and we checked the fuel pump and filters and found his screen on the bottom of the fuel pump had started deteriorating! We put a new one on his bike before anything happened!
Same thing happened to me a few years back. Same exact symptoms as you describe. It ended up being the ignition control module. I had it to the local repair shop 5 times. They insisted it was the carb. They adjusted it 5 times. I replaced the coil, the wires, the plugs, all the gaskets etc... and as a last resort I plugged in a Screaming Eagle ignition module that I knew was good and the bike never acted up again. Its been 2 years now and not even a hiccup.
oh boy am I glad I found this thread.
I've been having the same problem with my 2011 Street bob, I took it to the dealer and they adjusted my clutch and said it was all good when they test rode it.
Well it was good for the next 2 runs I did which were both less than 10 miles, no it's back again.
At least I have a list of things that could be causing the problem.
Luckily my bike is still under warranty, I'm going to take it to the shop tomorrow and see if they can finally fix this problem.

Just out of curiosity, did you describe a similar problem as posted in post one and your service man thought it was your clutch? A damaged prefilter sock in an 2011 is not very likely, and a bad ECM in your bike would throw a code. Let us know what you find out.

Yep, they thought it was the clutch but the problem is back.
Not getting any codes, at least this gives me some more ideas of what the problem could be.
