I have a 2008 Ultra Classic that rarely leaves the garage unless the wife is on it. When we go traveling, that bike is packed to the brim including the largest bag that will fit on top of the trunk. Probably close to 1,500 lbs sailing down the road.
The Dyna in my signature picture is my everyday rider and I will also do cross-country solo trips with it, it is that comfortable. I carry only enough clothes for 3 days and wash them in motel sinks several times before getting home.
I had Goldwings for 20 years. They are incredible machines, but supremely boring. My wife is much more comfortable on the Ultra. The Goldwing also has a difficult foot position (mid controls) if you are close to 6 feet tall or more. When I started drifting off to sleep on it, it had to go!
And this is why everybody hates you...just picking. Envious!
I know right! I wish I had the sack to cut up the Dyna like you did. I'd love to do it but I still use it to ride to work so I need to be able to haul stuff and my buddy who lives out of state rides it when he visits. So it wouldn't be practical right now.
Got a Road King for long trips and the Dyna is for every day riding. The Road King is like riding a Cadillac but if one had to go it would definately be the touring bike. They just dont put an immediate smile on your face like a dyna does.
Thanks Robbie. And stick to your guns on keeping the Dyna. The Street Glide is GREAT, but if you're like me some times you just want to jump on a Hot Rod....and that's where the Dyna comes in.
I have Both. For the last 6 years I have had touring and solo bike. Last year I picked this Gem for CHEAP(Kawasaki Voyager XII).
I have had Goldwings, and this will outperform all but the 1800's(It has a Ninja 1200 engine regeared for torque. IIRC it's 97HP). The comfort is for both is top notch. It's nothing to climb in the saddle two-up, ride 400-600 miles and get home in time to Climb on the bar hopper and finish the day.
BUT, If I HAD to keep one, the Wide Glide stays. For me motorcycles are therapy/religion, and when on the "radio rocket", some of that gets lost in the amenities. I love having the touring bike, it gives me great bonding time with my wife and kids(all of them rotate into the back seat) and we have put many miles on them, but I am all about the ride.
