"I know there's several posts on this subject, but can I get a quick 'whats involved' with installing these properly? Do they replace your dust caps or just fit into them. .? I've seen people cut and glue them on. If I take the forks off can I avoid this? Just slide them into place and they're maintenance free. .?

O-Town, do you have a guide for this somewhere?"

Matt, sorry don't have pic album for this install but the process is fairly straight-forward, as Oakspeed noted.
Once you have the tubes out of the trees, just slide the boots on from the top side. The Kajima boots have a rubber "lip" at the bottom that just happens to fit into the "groove" on the dust cap - no need for glue or zip tie to secure bottom end. Then slide tubes back up into trees to the proper location and tighten/torque to specs, then use the supplied plastic zip ties to secure the top of the boots. That's pretty much it!

its a half hour job.

the bottom just pushes over the bottom fork leg.
no need to remove dust cap.
hth.
Half-hour? Do you drink a few espresso's before working on your bike? Last time I had the front end apart it took me an hour to realize my ratchet straps just wouldn't fit over the bike and onto the jack at the height needed to pull the front end off.

O-Town,

Thanks to you too. Didn't know about those cable straps. Now it makes sense in my head. I love the way your bike looks i'll probably head down that path in a few years. Just blacked out a few things so far with plasti dip, too cheap and indecisive to commit to powder coating.

I have Kajimas I got from J&P! Took off the calipers and wheel and left the fender on. Loosened the pinch bolts and slid the fork tubes out as a unit...fitted the Gaters then slapped it back together...took 45 minutes with my son's help. Looks good and protects your tubes and seals from rock chipes and dried bugs. They are 80% function and 20% style!

Appreciate the compliments - much of what I've done to this bike are carry-overs from my old FXR plus copy-catting ideas from other bikes on this forum. Ride safe!

O-town D, like the look of the boots on your bike but, I love the upper forks (between the trees) blacked out as well. What did you do for that look? Thanks

I love that look, ordered the gators but want to know what exactly you have on the top part of each of the forks between the upper and lower trees?
