Hey guys! New member here and I've got a question on a 2006 Street Bob I hope you can give some advice on. I'm looking into getting my first Harley and came across this 2006 SB that has less than 6500 miles on it.
I've done my research on here as far as the Dyna problems with the '06 models like the IPB and stator/rotor and was wondering if you would reccommend staying away from this year altogether or if I could get it for a reasonable price if I should pull the trigger. With that being said, what would be a decent price to give for one that seems to be very well maintained. Thanks for the help.
I have a 2006 Street bob that I bought in early December and so far I love it. Came with pipes, filter and a tune and so far it as been a dream. Bike only has 2400 miles and so far my mechanic has gone through it and none of the issues mentioned are evident and with good maintenance I hope to keep it that way. I know some problems are unpreventable but at this point with the deal I got on it I can afford it.
My wife rides her 06 every day in all weather stator did break but they are pretty cheap and easy to fit less than Ł70 in UK so in USA should be much cheaper. A great bike she loves it.
If you get a good deal go for it. The primary bearing issue and rotor issue can be fixed pretty cheap if you repair it before it breaks. The '06 model did have some better gearing than the newer ones with the 96ci so off the line performance is good.
I bought an '06 in late '07 it had 5k on it and now has over 20k i have had no issues. It is something to keep in mind but if it is a good deal, I would pull the trigger. Good luck.
06' is a bastard year mainly cause from the 05' to 06' FXD models allot of things changed, then from 06' to 07' FXD's things changed even more. So there things that are specific to 06' FXDBi's. Personally I love my dyna and will never get rid of it. I'v had it since 12,000 mi and just rounded off @ 45,000 (in 2 years of hard *** riding) the other day, no problem except for the stator/rotor chewed cause of the 2 piece rotor (up grade to the welded and you'll be fine). If you look hard enough on here there are all kind of write up's on DIY upgrades like center switch's and tach consoles. It's a unique bike, a 88ci EFI Twin Cam with a six speed transmission. I can go on and on but you can do allot with this bike, if you have the time and money. For one that's mainly stock and under 7500 mi could be a really good buy. Good luck. OMS
