Fork stabilizers????

Ok so Im tinkering with my bike and I have decided that I want to ditch the fork stabilizers and throw some gaiters on.... But I want to hear the pros and cons of the stabilizers. They are the ones that look almost like another T down by the front fender. If I could figure out the posting of pictures on here Id show you. Any ways hoping some people with a bit more experience than me can point me in the right direction ditch em or not? Looks wise I hate em but Im more concerned with the bike riding well than looking good

tomorrow Ill take a picture of it and well talk the chrome isnt in the best shape. Like I said Ill send you pictures. Im taking a ride/camp/trip the weekend of the 17th Ill take it off for that and see if I want to leave it or not
