Last night here in town a 58 yr old man on a 2011 WG was killed when a 78 year old woman pulled out directly in front of him in the middle of town. As the weather breaks and we all dash to our bikes, please remember to be careful out there.
I witnessed several 'near misses' this past weekend. I dont get why people can't pay attention while they drive. Motorcycles are everywhere! I kid you not, I saw a guy eating Chinese food WITH CHOPSTICKS on the freeway. He could barely stay in his lane...
+1 Be careful out there guys.
This is tragic. I do hope that people pay better attention. Of course you can help yourself to be seen while riding--keep the driver's eyes in view in their mirrors if you're riding behind them. I had a couple lane drifters over the weekend... I don't like cars sharing my lane.

Nearly happened to me last year. Was able to stop in time with about only 1 ft to spare.
I know a lot don't like to wear helmets. Do the math.
Hope it does not come down to Hi-Vis riding gear.
My biggest threat so far is deer walking out in front of me on back roads. I have seen some guys with these "deer whistles" mounted on the front fender. Not sure if those are a gimmick or if they really work.
Not sure I'd survive hitting an adult deer at 45 mph. You can blame a person for bad judgement in driving. But a deer is just a deer and I don't think they are thinking about much when crossing the road.
It happens the world over, here in new zealand back in January a van pulled out to pass on a blind corner and took out about 1/2 dozen bikes on a charity run, killing one and put two others into intensive care. I personally think every new driver should be made to spend some time on two wheels to give them a better appreciation of motorcycle awareness.
I have a new '13 FLHTC.
I almost got clipped Saturday afternoon.
With 36 miles on the odometer, a guy in a pick up decides to take a left turn into a gas station.....turns right in front of me with no directional.
Luckily I was only doing about 30 and was able to swerve around him to the right after he slammed on his brakes in the middle of my lane.
Me and my buddy took a trip down to Austin on Friday and almost got taken out twice. Once was on the 35 which neither one of us like to ride on. My boss got taken out last spring taking a left turn at a stop light of all places. The dude that took him out was in the second lane of a double turn lane. The worst part is the guy sped off and no one got his plate number. My boss was ok and the bike got fixed but now he is real timid on rides. Basically no one in a cage ever pays attention to us. No matter what you do you will always have to look out for idiot drivers and be ready to act accordingly.
It's a real shame hearing all of these horror stories of unaware cagers. I've been riding for a few years now and have had a few too many close calls. Just this past weekend in the San Francisco area I had a young kid pull out in front of me. Unfortunately his first reaction when he saw me coming straight at him was to hit the brakes. Luckily I did the same and was able to swerve safely behind him in time but I almost took out my riding buddy in the process. Be safe out there everyone!
