Default 16" apes wiring help on 2012 wide glide

Putting some 16" apes on my 2012 wide glide so I need to extend the wiring...I've done it a few times on older bikes so I thought it would be pretty straightforward...got the bike apart..tank off etc..but where does the wiring from the bars plug into the main loom?
When I've done this before there usually some multi connectors under the tank but it looks like the ones on my bike are in the middle of the backbone of the frame and totally inaccessible.
I know I could chop the wires further up as I'm gonna be cutting into them anyway but I would really like to know if there's a way of getting to the molex connectors, then all my joins could be tucked away in the backbone out of harms way...any advice much appreciated.

The connector is in the backbone. Gentley pull the wires until the concector comes out. You might also try removing the harness shield under the backbone to help.

Thanks Tx Rebel...yep once i found that little sneaky plastic trapdoor on the underside of the backbone it all went smooth as butter...loads of extra wiring in there unfortunately not enough for my purposes but I'm on the right road...just got to put all the electrics back in the bike now that I took out trying to sort it! Thanks again for your time.

Just one more point Tx...what sort of guage wire should I be using when extending my wiring...I know it should be the same as the existing but what is that? any idea?
I've always gone a bit overkill...tending to use what is probably too heavy a wire albeit with a thin wall insulation to keep size to a minimum.Any thoughts?
