Default Help with 2012 wide glide ape hangers

Hey there well I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone can help with some questions I have about installing my apes. I pretty much understand everything except how to get to my wire connectors for my handlebar switches. I'm not sure where they are located. Please help. Thanks

Welcome! The wire connectors are in the neck of the frame. You can access them by pulling the rubber grommets on both sides of the neck. Then pull the wiring out carefully and the connectors will emerge. Just unclip them then pull them out of your bars. When you wire the new apes, lemme know. There are a few tips I have learned. ;-)

Care to elaborate your tricks . I'll be installing RSD King Apes within the next few weekends, waiting for parts to show up.

I'll share what I think is my most siginificant piece of advice:

When you are ready to route your wires through your new handlebars, stagger the pins so they are not all in one spot and put some heat shrink tubing over them, shrink the tubing then tie a line around the wires and feed the other end through the handlebars; helps to put a small nut on the other end and use a vacuum to suck it out the other side.

Then all you have to do is pull from the top end to get the wires through, if they feel like they are catching on a bend, use a sawing motion back and forth until they work free. Repeat for the other side.

Take a few pics of the connectors before dissassembly so you know how to plug them back in.

Good luck!

The 2012 connectors are small like the 2013, no need to disassemble the connectors. They will slide through 1 1/4" bars just fine. Dump a copious amount of baby powder inside the bars then attach about 4 large zip ties together and electrical tape the connections so theyre flat. Then overlap the end buckle of the zip tie over the wire connector and electrical tape them together. The connector and zip tie buckle will lock in together and allow the wiring to be pulled straight through the bars without folding over and binding. Feed the ziptie's through the bars then use the back and forth sawing action as mentioned above. Take your time and remember not to pull too hard and persistence pays off.

My advice would be to pull the stock connectors through the bars first & THEN see if they need extending. 20 bucks says it wont be necessary..
